History majors seek careers or further graduate training as teachers, researchers, librarians, attorneys, journalists, museum curators, preservationists, and in publishing, politics, public administration, and other government service, among many possibilities. History majors graduate with the ability to analyze complex problems, communicate effectively both in written and oral form, and understand diverse peoples in widely different circumstances and time periods. As expressed in the History Department Mission Statement, a significant portion of the departments graduates will enter the teaching profession, but all who complete its programs should be equipped to approach knowledgably, sensitively, and critically whatever careers they choose.
