History Programs
The Department offers both the B.A. and M.A. degrees in History. Our courses are significant components of the G.E. and Liberal Studies programs on campus. Our faculty are award-winning professional scholars, widely published in their fields and active in their professional associations. We include specialists in U.S., European, Latin American, and East Asian History, and the History of California and the U.S. West.
Students have the opportunity to choose from a wide array of history courses at both the Hayward and Concord campuses of CSUEB. As of Fall 2006, students can fulfill all the requirements for the major at either campus. The undergraduate major includes foundational courses in historical interpretation and research, field concentrations, electives, and capstone courses in historiography and research methods. The graduate program consists of a series of graduate seminars and the graduate project. M.A. candidates have the opportunity to work on projects directly related to their career goals. History course sections are scheduled Mondays through Saturdays, with frequent night classes. Courses are offered year-round.
Please feel free to contact any member of the department for answers to your questions and assistance with your plans. We look forward to hearing from you!
