JOURNAL OF ETHNIC STUDIES: JES welcomes academic papers, articles, reviews (books,
film, performance, etc.), personal narratives, fiction, poetry, and photo essays.
Please submit one hard copy and one digital copy in an 8 ½ x 11 manila envelope
to the Ethnic Studies Office only. Manuscript guidelines are available online
or in the Ethnic Studies office. Submissions, which do not meet guidelines, are
subject to rejection.
E-MAIL SUBMISSIONS: Attach your submission as a
Microsoft Word document only. Type JES4 on subject line. E-mail your submissions
to: nicholas.baham@csueastbay.edu.
MANUSCRIPTS: Articles submitted to
the JES should not be currently under review by another journal or on the Internet.
Send one copy of the manuscript by e-mail attachment to nicholas.baham@csueastbay.edu
in Microsoft Word only. This file should, also, include the title page, references,
figures, and tables. Use endnotes.
BOOK AND FILM REVIEWS: Limit reviews
to 1000 words excluding author, title, date, publishers, number of pages, cost,
ISBN, reference citations, as well as the reviewer's name and institution. Reviews
should be double spaced, in Microsoft Word, and in Times Roman, 12 point type.
Reviews should provide brief content synopses and critical comments.
ARTICLES: You may address research, theory, or practice, but student articles
may not exceed 2500 words, graduate/faculty may not exceed 5000 excluding the
title page, biographical information, and references.
PERSONAL NARRATIVES
OR FICTION: Limit work to 1000 words.
POETRY: Submit one to three poems.
Limit work to 25 lines or less per poem.
PHOTO ESSAYS: Submit in jpg
format on a CD. Limit work to 4-20 photos. Include short identifying written essay.
MANUSCRIPT FORMAT AND STYLE: Use MLA guidelines (use endnotes). The selection
process is conducted by the Editor-in-Chief and the Editorial Board. The editors
reserve the right to make changes to your manuscript, for clarity and space considerations.
