Stay BLACK
(Thoughts of a confused Negro)Hey man stay BLACK!
Is what he said to me
In one of those 70's manners of speech
But I could not
I knew not BLACKNESS
Or what it meant to be BLACK
For I was not BLACK
Nor was I brown
Nor was I AFRICAN AMERICAN
Because nothing about me screamed Africa
Not my rhythm
Not my soul
Nothing about me says
I am BLACK
Not my features
Not my hair
Not my thoughts
For it was lost
Along with savage gods
Primal piercing
And the corpse of my
Ancestors drowned at sea!
