The English Department at California
State University, East Bay offers a flexible
Master's Degree program that enables
students to focus on literary studies,
creative writing, or TESOL (Teaching
English to Speakers of Other Languages).
Our diverse faculty take pride in both
their scholarly and creative work, and
their teaching. Graduate classes are
small, and instructors take the time
to work individually with their students.
Students come into the English M.A.
program with a variety of backgrounds
and objectives, but they share a love
of literature, language, and writing.
They find here a community of teachers
and scholars, as well as stimulating
classes that prepare them for a wide
variety of careers. In recent years
our graduate students have presented
papers at a variety of professional
conferences. Many of our graduates have
taken responsible positions in publishing,
government, and business, while others
have gone to further education in literature
and language studies, law, and business.
Situated in a park-like setting overlooking
San Francisco Bay, California State
University, East Bay provides the facilities
and activities of a mid-sized university,
including a spacious library housing
over 800,000 volumes. Our central location
allows students and faculty to draw
on the resources of the metropolitan
Bay Area and to commute easily from
San Francisco, Berkeley, Oakland, San
Jose, and other cities of the East Bay
and the Peninsula.
