Hardware and Software
The Lab hardware includes:
- Twenty-two Dell OptiPlex computers with 1 GB RAM, hard disk drives, floppy disk drives, Iomega ZIP 250 MB drives, CD-ROM drives, Microsoft wheel mouse devices, 19-inch flat-panel monitors, and connection to the Internet through the campus network.
- One Dell OptiPlex computer with additional hardware and software for increased accessibility, ADA compliant.
- Two Xerox laser printers, one for black printing and one for color printing, attached to a print release station.
- One flatbed scanner. Please ask the Lab Assistants for help.
- An overhead projector for use during classes or orientations.
Note: Visitors to the Lab may not attach any computers or peripheral devices to the computers nor to the network connections in the lab. Please bring an adequate supply of floppy disks or Iomega ZIP disks to save your work. Iomega ZIP disks can be 100 MB or 250 MB and must be PC formatted. Disks are available at the Pioneer Bookstore or any store that sells office supplies. Files you create on or copy to the computer hard disks might not be available at your next visit. Please save your documents every five to fifteen minutes.
Each workstation in the Lab has the following software installed:
- Microsoft Windows XP operating system with Internet Explorer
- Microsoft Office Professional (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Microsoft Publisher).
- Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS for Windows)
- Novell LAN Workplace Pro
- Adobe Creative Suite and Adobe Reader
- Network Associates McAfee Virus Scan with virus definition files updated daily.
- WinZIP
- Additional software as requested by professors for specific course needs.
Note: Visitors to the Lab are not permitted to install additional software on the Lab computers. If you have special needs, please consult the Lab staff. Viruses are an ongoing problem for all of us and the most common method for spreading a virus is via infected floppy disks. Please take a moment to scan each disk as soon as you insert it into one of our computers. If you need help, read about viruses or ask the Lab Assistants.
