Biographical Sketch

William Rosenthal is Emeritus Professor of Communicative Sciences and Disorders at California State University, East Bay. He is a founding faculty member of the department. He has been with the university since 1970 and served as the department Graduate Coordinator for 15 years. He has a Ph.D. in Speech and Hearing Science and Psychology from Stanford University School of Medicine. In addition to being a clinically certified member of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, he was in the initial cadre of Board Recognized Fluency Specialists and Mentors. He is a Life Member of the American Psychological Association, Division 29, Psychotherapy, and a regular member of the International Transactional Analysis Association (ITAA). He directed the Fluency Treatment Program, and taught courses in fluency disorders and graduate-level seminars in Counseling and Psychotherapy for Speech-Language Pathologists. He currently serves as the department's web site administrator.

His interest in dogs extends to the genetics of breed variations in Rhodesian Ridgebacks, and the utilization of dogs in therapeutic contexts. His late dog Shona was a frequent visitor to the clinic, and served as a therapy dog for adults in the Aphasia Treatment Program and for children in the Autism Treatment and Fluency Treatment Programs. He is training another dog, Georgie, to continue this therapeutic work.
