The Center operates a mobile screening van that is the only
one of its kind in the East Bay. This facility makes it possible
to provide hearing and speech screenings to those who are unable
to travel to the clinic--by going to schools, heath fairs and
senior centers throughout the East Bay. Because the van is sound
treated with a quiet interior, it is possible to use more sensitive
instruments that are needed to screen the hearing of very young
children more quickly and with increased accuracy.
At present, the Center conducts some 900 preschool and grade-school
screenings annually. Since the mobile screening van allows the
screenings to be conducted more quickly, more children can be
screened each year.
Screenings are provided to the community at low cost by graduate
students, who are in clinical training at the University and
work under the supervision of licensed and certified professionals.

The mobile screening van has been made possible by the generous
support of the Eden Township Health District, The TJ
Long Foundation, and Wells Fargo Bank.
