(Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology)
The department of Communicative Sciences and Disorders (CSD) offers the B.S. and M.S. degrees. The department trains students to become speech-language pathologists and prepares
students for doctoral study in speech-language pathology.
Speech-language pathologists (SLP's) assess and treat persons with speech, language, hearing and communication disorders. They work in a variety of settings, including hospitals, schools, rehabilitation centers, community clinics, and private practice. Students choose this growing field because they are strong communicators who seek a rewarding, well-paying profession in which they can help others. SLP's have the opportunity to work with a variety of age-groups in a wide range of work settings. The job market is excellent. Speech-Language Pathology was recently listed in U.S. World and News Report as one of 25 top careers in 2007.
Graduate students in our CSUEB program, accredited by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA), complete extensive clinical training including two off-campus internships. Graduates of the M.S. program can apply for California Licensure to practice speech-language pathology, the ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC), and the California Speech Pathology Services Credential.
