||Kachinas, in the Hopi worldview, are manifestations of both the physical
and spiritual world. The kachina dolls pictured at this site are representations
of their spirit counterparts, who live in the peaks of the nearby San Francisco mountains.
The kachina spirits visit the mesas between December and July, and take part in a
number of ceremonies.
The calendar on the left is your portal into the kachina world. Each of the months
links to one of the main kachinas in the ceremomies of that season. These virtual
kachinas are displayed in QuickTime animation, which allows you to manipulate them
and see them at different angles. If you don't have QuickTime, click here to download a free copy. If you are viewing
this with Windows, and are having problems, click here.
